Why Should I Adopt a Pet?

Unless you are looking for a breed specific animal for show purposes, adoption is almost always better! Here are the reasons in no particular order:

  • Buying an animal from the store supports the puppy/kitten mill industry.
  • Adopted animals are often cheaper than than store or breeder animals.
  • If you adopt an animal that is a year or older, you have a better idea what kind of personality you are getting.
  • Shelter animals have been vaccinated and neutered. You must do this yourself otherwise.
  • The number one reason to adopt: you can save a life. For every pet bought from a breeder or pet store, an animal does not get adopted and risks being euthanized when the shelter is too full.

You can find all sorts of pet breeds, personalities, ages at a shelter. To sum it up, you can find all different kinds of animals in need of a home at a shelter, and you can find the one that will fit your life perfectly.

Where Can I Adopt a Pet?

You may already know of several shelters and rescue organizations near where you live. If not, here are a few suggestions:

  • A local animal control shelter or local humane society is a good place to start.
  • Animal rescue organizations hold regular adoption days at pet supply outlets.
  • Some rescue groups specialize in specific breeds of dogs and cats at shelters if you want a certain breed.

"It took us a long time to decide what we wanted. Luckily, we came across Macy! Although it has not been that long, we are proud to say that she is apart of the Botez family! ~Katie's review

"The owner and volunteers are wonderful, they've taken in strays, large pit mixes that would otherwise be euthanized and problem dogs!! Like any shelter/rescue they get full so not all animals can be taken in but if there's room the door is always open!" ~Hayley's review
